Forest View swears in new police officers
Forest View Police Officer Jorge Sanchez is sworn in as a new corporal.

The Village of Forest View has a new full-time police officer and a newly promoted corporal on the force.
In front of a full-house at their February 27 Board of Trustees meeting, Clerk Laura McGuffey did the honors swearing-in Maria Guzman as a full-time officer, and promoting Officer Jorge Sanchez to the rank of corporal.
Both appointments were previously approved at the February 13 board meeting.
Mayor Nancy Miller was absent from the meeting and Trustee Mike Grossi was elected as temporary chairman of the meeting.
Public Works Supt. Frank Filec asked the board to finalize and approve M and Q Construction Co.’s bid for $1.9 million for work to be performed on the Wenonah Avenue sewer project.
Filec also asked for approval to go out to bid for an upcoming street resurfacing project. The village is looking to re-pave the 4500 blocks of Maple, Wisconsin, Kenilworth, and Grove avenues. He explained that it was beneficial for them to start the process at this time. The board gave the go-ahead.
There’s been ongoing discussion about the possible need for speed bumps and speed humps in the village.
Concerns are about increased traffic coming through town, and some speeding because of it.
After discussion, the board approved the purchase of a few speed bumps and speed humps. The difference is their size and what speed they are designed to induce.
After being acquired, the devices will be placed in various locations to see what works best to address the issues.
Temporary Chairman, Trustee Mike Grossi, talked of putting a packet together for new residents that move into the village.
It would contain important information they should know, but would also give any new residents a chance to meet village officials.
The idea was welcomed by all.
Police Chief Bianel Zarate said that there were no major incidents during the month of January.
Fire Chief Mark Jones stated that the fire department recently assisted the Village of Summit with a hazardous material situation involving chemicals leaking from a semi-truck on Interstate 55 near LaGrange Road. The village ambulance also assisted with a recent shooting in McCook.
Jones brought the village’s new Dalmatian pup Cinder to the meeting. He reports Cinder was born on Halloween and is healthy and gets more social every day.
