Hickory Hills to install 6 license-plate cameras

Hickory Hills aldermen approved the installation of six Flock license plate cameras at their March 14 city council meeting.
City officials said the Flock cameras will help police pick up the license plate and description of a wanted vehicle.
Nearby communities including Oak Lawn and Palos Hills have also utilized Flock’s technology, allowing departments to share intelligence and alerts.
Hickory Hills Police Chief Jason Bray said where the six cameras would be located:
- On 95th Street near McDonald’s going westbound and by 95th Produce Market going eastbound.
- In the 9800 block of Roberts Road going northbound.
- Off of Roberts Road in the 8700 block.
- 8000 block of westbound 87th Street.
- Off of southbound 88th Avenue in the 8600 block.
The agreement is for two years. Installation of six cameras will cost $1,000 each. The contract also calls for $3,000 to service each camera over the length of the contract.
The technology will be able to identify not only the license plate but also the make and model of the vehicle, its color, and the vehicle’s markings.
Residents and community members will see installations of the new cameras as early as this summer.
