Green Garden Township officials are moving ahead with plans for the renovation of the town hall on Center Road. Among the improvements town officials have discussed are plumbing, a new septic system, HVAC, a better parking lot, and wiring.
Officials also have noted the building is old and non-ADA compliant. It reportedly served many decades ago as the gymnasium for the elementary school cater-cornered from it on Center Road.
The property was conveyed to the township by way of a Quit Claim Deed in 1974, by owner Albert H. Krusemark, a prominent Frankfort attorney and real estate developer. The deed included a restrictive covenant that requires the property be used only for township government purposes.
“The Town Hall Renovation Committee, chaired by Trustee Cherie Newton, has been very active recently,” Township Supervisor Don Murday said. “After receiving a $58,000 grant from the federal government, Green Garden Township applied for and was granted an additional $500,000 in federal monies to further this endeavor. The township retained the services of TRIA Architecture, Inc., to assist in the planning and actual renovation of the town hall.
“To begin the process, TRIA Architecture retained a company to conduct a boundary and topographic survey at the hown Hall and surrounding property. Thereafter, TRIA Architecture conducted an existing facility report, inspecting the current condition of the structure and its plumbing, heating, and electrical systems.” Murday continued.
“At that point, a needs assessment was conducted to determine what would be required for the optimal future use of the town hall. Upon completion of the needs assessment, TRIA Architecture prepared preliminary drawings for the renovated town hall.”
Murday noted that, in addition to creating a space for an assessor’s office, plans also provide for renovating the current bathrooms, making the Town Hall ADA compliant and establishing a new parking area.
Moreover, the plans contemplate a Green Garden Township electronic monument sign, with accompanying lit flagpole. All of the studies, assessments, and plans are available on the Green Garden Township website.
“As you can imagine, we are very excited to begin this endeavor.” Murday added. “Along those lines, the township is continuing to seek additional funding from the federal and state governmental units in order to complete this renovation as quickly as possible.”
