Bingo, Books, and BP: Join others in the community on Friday, March 8, from 10 a.m. – noon, at the library, for it free Bingo, Books, and BP. Please note this event now is held in the third floor meeting room. Every month, those attending have chances to win an assortment of prizes, including books! Light refreshments will be provided. Concurrent with Bingo, an RN from St. Mary’s will be available to provide simple health checks, such as blood pressure readings, as well as answer basic medical questions and provide referrals for various community resources.

FantasyCon Returns to Library: The library invites you to join them for the return of FantasyCon this Saturday, March 9, from 10 a.m. – 2 p.m. The event will include vendors of collectibles, comics, artwork, and more. Planned activities include a panel discussion, a movie room, and a costume contest. FantasyCon is a family-friendly pop culture celebration of everything fantasy, anime, sci-fi, superhero, and more. From Jujutsu Kaisen to Harry Potter, Warhammer to Marvel, there is sure to be something for everyone. This event is free and open to the public.

Tuesday Morning Book Discussion: The library hosts the Tuesday Morning Book Discussion on the second Tuesday of each month at 10 a.m. The book discussion for Tuesday, March 12, is on “The Only Woman in the Room,” by Marie Benedict. This powerful novel is based on the incredible true story of the glamour icon and scientist Hedy Lamarr, whose groundbreaking invention revolutionized modern communication. This program is free and open to the public. Join us to discuss this book!

Kankakee Kultivators present “Pruning and Shrub Care:” The Kankakee Kultivators Garden Club will host their monthly presentation at the Kankakee Public Library on Thursday, March 14, at 1 p.m., in the third floor meeting room. This month, guest speaker Nancy Addison will discuss “Pruning and Shrub Care.” The Kankakee Kultivators, a local garden club that promotes the beautification of its community, organizes annual garden walks, gives gardening advice, hosts guest speakers, and more. This is a free program, with no registration required.

Lawyers in the Library: In partnership with the Kankakee Public Library, Prairie State Legal Services invites residents to meet with a lawyer, for free, on the second Thursday of every month from 9:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Please note, these meetings have a new location and are held on the third floor of the library. March’s Lawyers in the Library event will be held on Thursday, March 14.

Representatives from Prairie State will offer free, one-on-one meetings with an attorney to give legal advice. All participants must complete a screening process before speaking with an attorney about civil legal matters.

Meditation Series at the Library: Join others at the library for a month-long free Meditation Series, every Wednesday in March, from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. This four-part series explores and will provide experience with different techniques in meditation, including mindfulness, autogenics training, and progressive relaxation.

The series is led by Gary Paruszkiewicz, a Certified Stress Management Educator. Gary lives in Kankakee and began the Kankakee Wellness Group and Worldwide Tai Chi Day, among many other contributions. He uses Tai Chi, Qigong, meditation, and other methods to promote healthy living and stress management.
