The Township of Lyons is actually saving money by renting four copiers instead of buying them.
At its January meeting, the township board unanimously approved renewing a contract with Proven-IT for four new multi-function copiers.
The township has worked with the company for five years, Township Supervisor Christopher Getty said.
“It’s an $8 increase on a monthly basis per machine,” Getty said. “It was $217 per month previously. This will be $225 per month per unit.”
After the meeting, Getty said it is cheaper to lease four copiers than to purchase them. Plus, he noted, the monthly fees cover maintenance along with any needed repairs.
“A copier is almost worthless after five years,” Getty said. “Previously, we used to buy the copiers for $11,000 to $12,000. You buy three or four at a time, and at the end you have a worthless machine.”
In other business:
- It’s “play ball” once again for the township as the board unanimously approved a $1,000 sponsorship for a baseball team in the Lyons Township Little League. “We have traditionally sponsored a team (and are) continuing that tradition,” Getty said/
- Trustee Colleen Kelly said nearly 13,000 rides were provided to seniors in 2023 by the township’s bus service. “I hear nothing but great things about this (program),” Kelly said. Quinn Corcoran, director of senior transportation, said “demand keeps growing and growing ever since the pandemic.” While that’s the case, there’s still a ways to go to match the highs seen before the pandemic when 16,000 to 17,000 rides were provided annually
