Two suburban men were arrested Friday in connection with a shooting on January 14 in the 10200 block of South Harlem Avenue in Chicago Ridge.

Sary Abushanab, 25, of the 8100 block of Marion Drive in Justice, and Mohammad Freihat, 23, of the 8100 block of South Braeburn in Orland Park, were each charged with attempted first-degree murder and aggravated discharge of a firearm, police said. They were ordered held at Cook County Jail during a bond hearing Friday.

Police said they were dispatched to the area of 9700 S. Harlem about 10:15 p.m. January 14 for a report of shots fired.

When they arrived, officers learned that the occupants of one vehicle had been shooting at a second vehicle driving down Harlem Avenue. Both vehicles were gone by the time officers arrived.

A short time later, a Cicero police officer contacted Chicago Ridge police and said they had a vehicle in their town with a victim who had suffered a gunshot wound to the chest and three additional occupants.

Police determined these were the occupants of the second car in the Chicago Ridge shooting.

The gunshot victim was transported to Loyola Hospital for treatment and later released. A second victim was transported to McNeil Hospital for a previous unrelated injury from this incident and later released.

Chicago Ridge detectives learned that the victims had a conversation with the two alleged shooters in a parking lot in the 10300 block of Harlem Avenue. Police said the victims noticed that both alleged offenders had handguns, while sitting in a Mercedes SUV.

The victims got into their vehicle and left the parking lot. The two suspects in the Mercedes then followed the victim’s vehicle onto northbound Harlem.

When they reached the 10200 block of Harlem, the two suspects began shooting at the victim’s vehicle and the driver was struck by gunfire. The driver and the front seat passenger both had valid concealed carry licenses and returned fire at the suspect’s vehicle.

Both suspects were identified by the victim and witnesses as Abushanab, who was allegedly driving the Mercedes, and Freihat.

  1. Lots of shiatbags hang out at Pete’s market parking lot after hours. It’s like a hang out. All of them never up to any good…. Change my mind.

  2. This is ridiculous. The streets are turning into battlefields with these maniacs. Police need to step it up but the prosecutor’s office needs to do its damn job.

    1. How can the police “step it up” the politicians have them tied up. “Safe-T Act” has them tied up. States Attorney don’t approve certain offenses most of the time. How can they possibly do their jobs. It’s the politicians my friend. Trust me, there’s nothing more that the police would love than to lock these clowns up

  3. We live at 105th and Harlem. About the 4th shooting at that corner in 2 years. We’re leaving for Florida in 3 days. It’s not safe in the area anymore. The Police don’t seem to be concerned though. Glad to be moving to a better neighborhood.
