Oak Lawn junior guard Dante Montgomery scored a game-high 19 points and the Spartans defeated Richards, 49-43, in what will be the only regular-season matchup this season between the crosstown rivals.
The South Suburban Red teams battled for most of the game, but Oak Lawn (11-5, 4-0) walked away with their first victory of 2024 on Jan. 9. The Spartans’ Sean Ryan had a rebound and steal in the final 14 seconds to secure the victory and help Oak Lawn snap a three-game skid.
Spartans sophomore Jack Dempsey hit a trio of 3-pointers and finished with 13 points. Henry Martinez added 11 points.
Sophomore guard Marcus Jennings scored 12 points for Richards (7-12, 0-5 SSC Red).
The Bulldogs went 0-2 last week, falling 70-63 to Reavis in an SSC Red game.
Argo (5-12, 0-4 SSC Red)
The Argonauts dropped a conference matchup to Hillcrest on January 9. Kassam Saleh led the team with 10 points in the loss.
Bogan (11-9, 7-0 Chicago Public White)
The Bengals remained undefeated in conference play after defeating Hubbard and Dunbar last week.
Brother Rice (18-2, 5-0 Chicago Catholic Blue)
The Crusaders improved their conference record to 7-0 with a 56-37 win over Providence. Marcos Gonzales scored a game-high 26 points and Zavier Fitch contributed 14 points in the win.
Chicago Christian (5-12, 1-3 Chicagoland Christian)
The Knights celebrating coach Kevin Pittman’s birthday with a 49-35 win against Marian Central Catholic. They ended the week with a 52-44 loss to Lisle at the Timothy Christian MLK Shoot-Out.
Curie (17-1, 5-0 Chicago Public-Red)
The Condors defeated conference rivals Perspectives and Kenwood to extend their winning streak to 13 games. In the 68-49 win over Kenwood, Illinois-Chicago commit Carlos Harris led the way with a game-high 21 points and eight rebounds. Christian Borclet and Will Gonzalez each scored 11 points.
De La Salle (10-8, 2-1 Chicago Catholic Blue)
The Meteors dropped a third straight game with a 53-50 loss to St. Laurence. Tavariyuan Williams finished with a double-double (12 points, 10 rebounds) and Richard Lindsey added 10 points.
Lyons (5-9, 2-3 West Suburban Silver)
Lyons defeated Glenbard West, 49-35, in a conference game. Brady Chambers had 14 points and 17 rebounds in the win. Liam Taylor contributed 14 points and four rebounds.
Marist (16-3, 5-2 ESCC)
The RedHawks defeated Nazareth, 54-45, on January 9. Three players scored in double figures, led by Darshan Thomas’ 14 points.
Morton (3-13, 0-4 West Suburban Gold)
The Mustangs went 0-3 with losses to Downers Grove South, Metea Valley and Lake Forest Academy.
Mount Carmel (18-2, 2-0 Chicago Catholic- Blue)
The Caravan maintained their perfect record against Illinois schools by defeating Montini, 61-48. Angelo Ciaravino scored a game-high 21 points in the win.
Nazareth (5-11, 1-6 East Suburban Catholic)
The Roadrunners lost to Marist, 54-45, on Jan. 9.
Reavis (9-7, 3-2 SSC Red)
The Rams lost to Evergreen Park on Jan. 9, but followed that with a win over Richards, 70-63, to break a three-game skid.
St. Laurence (10-8, 3-0 Chicago Catholic White)
The Vikings beat De La Salle, 53-50, and lost to Bloom, 53-52, the latter one a heartbreaker at the inaugural MLK South Suburban Classic. St. Laurence guard Zerrick Johnson scored a game-high 20 points and grabbed six rebounds in a win over the Meteors. Bloom sank a 3-pointer with 3 seconds left to scrape past the Vikings. Johnson scored 15 points in the loss.
St. Rita (1-17, 0-4 CCL Blue)
The Mustangs lost a non-conference matchup IC Catholic, 53-42, on Jan. 9.
Sandburg (9-9, 0-4 Southwest Suburban- Blue)
The Eagles drop a nonconference matchup to Joliet Central, 56-46. Paulius Mizeras scored 14 points and David Vargas had 12 points.
Shepard (4-13, 0-5 SSC Red)
Astros senior Jeremiah Storey had eight points and seven rebounds in a 66-34 loss to Stagg on Jan. 10.
Stagg (13-6, 2-1 Southwest Suburban- Red)
The Chargers defeated Shepard, 66-34, and lost to Kankakee, 60-37, the latter at the MLK South Suburban Classic. David Ortiz scored a game-high 14 points and grabbed six rebounds in the win over the Astros. Connor Williams added 12 points and Domas Narcevicius was had 12 points and seven rebounds. Stagg’s SouthWest Suburban Red matchup against Bradley-Bourbonnais scheduled for Jan. 12 was canceled.
