Girls Hoops Wrap | Young and older have fun in Oak Lawn

It was a little of the old and new mixing together at Oak Lawn.
The current Spartans beat Crete-Monee, 54-42, in a nonconference game on Jan. 7.
In the crowd were players from the 2013-14 Oak Lawn squad that finished 28-2. After the game, alumni players engaged in a game of their own.
Maeve Hassett had 19 points and seven rebounds for the Spartans (7-10). Bianca Fleitas added 17 points and Teagan Krzystof hit five 3-pointers that accounted for all of her 15 points.
Growing the Game
Three area teams participated in the Grow the Game Showcase in the Chicago area. The event featured 43 teams representing four states over three days and featured five host sites.
Mother McAuley played twice in the showcase and beat Fishers (Indiana), 65-58, on Jan. 4 at Stevenson. Morgan Feil was named Player of the Game as the McKendree-bound forward had 18 points, 16 rebounds and three assists for the Mighty Macs. Grace Gambotz and Maeve Egan each had 17 points.
McAuley beat Hersey, 59-48, the next day at Hinsdale Central. Feil was again named Player of the Game, scoring 18 points and hauling down 10 rebounds. Gambotz added 15 points while Quinn Arundel had 13 points.
Lyons also participated and dropped a 48-44 decision to Geneva on Jan. 4 at Stevenson. Sophomore Emma O’Brien had 11 points for the Lions and was named Player of the Game.
Marist dropped a 62-33 game to Libertyville Jan. 5 at Glenbard West. Marty Porter was named Player of the Game after scoring 10 points.

The 34th Coach Kipp Hoopfest takes place Jan. 13 and 15 at Montini in Lombard.
Marist opens the showcase on Jan. 13 with a 9:30 a.m. game against Maine West. Lyons faces Sandburg in a battle of area teams at 11 a.m.
On Jan. 15, Nazareth takes on Pewaukee (Wisconsin) at 12:15 p.m.
