The Peotone Blue Devils varsity basketball team began their week on Tuesday, December 5, and faced conference rival Coal City on their home court, but came up short in the contest, 36-43.
On the night, Ruben Velasco led the Devils with a double-double, with 18 points and 10 rebounds.
According to Coach Ron Oloffson, the team didn’t shoot well, plus Coal City had 18 offensive rebounds, which proved to be the difference.
The story happily was different for the Blue Devils on Friday, December 8, as Peotone beat Lisle, 57-52, in overtime, resulting in the Devil’s first conference victory.
Brandon Weiss led the team with 22 points and 6 rebounds. In overtime, he scored 7 of the team’s 10 points, including 4-out-of-5 free throws. Ruben Velasco added his second double-double in as many games, with 21 points and 13 rebounds, while Hunter Becker finished with 5 points and 7 rebounds.
The Blue Devils are now 1-7 overall and 1-1 in ICE.
