Beecher Varsity Basketball began its season at the Coaler Turkey Tournament last week. On Monday, November 20, the team played Manteno and brought home a 53-40 win. On the night, Orlin Nesbitt was the high scorer with 22 points, 6 rebounds, and 2 blocks; Jack Hayhurst added 10 points, 4 rebounds, and 2 steals; Ethan Rydberg contributed 9 points, 6 rebounds, and 3 assists; Zack Johnson was credited with 6 points, 9 rebounds, 4 assists, and 4 steals; while Adyn McGinley finished with 4 points, 7 rebounds, 5 assists, and 4 steals.
On night two of the tournament, November 21, Beecher handedly beat Peotone, 60-39. Adyn McGinley was the high scorer on the night with 22 points, plus 7 assists, Zack Johnson added 21 points, while Orlin Nesbitt finished with 7 points and 7 rebounds.

With the game in the record book, Adyn McGinley joined the 1,000-Point Club, despite some short previous seasons. During his freshman year, which was affected by COVID, he played only 5 games. Then, during his sophomore season, he missed eight weeks due to a wrist injury. Congratulations, Adyn!!! It’s a wonderful accomplishment!!!
On Friday, November 24, the Bobcats faced IC Prep and kept their winning record going, taking the contest 62-50. On the night, Adyn McGinley again was the leading scorer with 27 points and 6 rebounds. Orlin Nesbitt contributed 17 points and 5 rebounds in the victory, while Zack Johnson finished with 10 points and 5 rebounds.
Finishing out the week on Saturday, November 25, and to no one’s surprise, the Bobcats won the Coaler Turkey Tourney Championship, beating Morris 65-39. Adyn McGinley was on fire with 33 points, 4 assists, and 4 steals. Orlin Nesbitt added 16 points and 6 rebounds, while Ethan Rydberg finished with 7 assists.
According to Coach Tyler Shireman, it was a “good effort this week, as the Bobcats move to 4-0 on the young season. Congrats to our JV team for going 3-1, with a third-place finish.”
