A Bedford Park police officer was in stable condition Sunday after he was shot while investigating a stolen car near the Speedway station at 6800 S. Archer Avenue.
Police were responding to reports of a nearby car crash about 3:40 a.m. Police said a car reported stolen in a carjacking in Chicago was found heavily damaged in the 6700 block of Archer.
Surveillance footage showed two people flee the wrecked car and enter another car parked at the gas station.
Police approached the two people in the car and a struggle ensued when one of them would not comply with the officers.
During the struggle, one of the men fired several shots at the officers. One of the officers was hit at least two times. He was taken to Loyola Medical Center and was reported in serious but stable condition.
Bridgeview Police Chief Ricardo Mancha said his officers responded to the shooting. He said three people had been arrested.
Two firearms were recovered at the scene.
The Illinois State Police are assisting Bedford Police Department with the investigation.
