Nurse in the Library: Through a partnership with Ascension Saint Mary, the library is hosting a Registered Nurse (RN) in the library on Friday, November 3, from 9 a.m. until 1 p.m. Access to the compassionate help you deserve is now just as easy as checking out a book!
The nurse can help you get back on track with a variety of specialized aid, including but not limited to: Referrals to community resources, such as employment, food pantries, behavioral health services, and more; assistance with applying for benefits; confidential consultations and assessments; and referrals to healthcare providers. Bingo with the Books: Are you looking for a place to play fun, free bingo? Then come to the library and join us for Bingo with the Books on Friday, November 3, from 10 a.m. to noon, in the fourth floor auditorium, for a chance to win an assortment of prizes. Snacks will be available! Invite your friends and relatives to play along.
Lawyers in the Library: In partnership with Prairie State Legal Services, library staff invite you to meet with a lawyer in the library on the second Thursday of every month from 9:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Representatives from Prairie State will give a brief presentation on their services, and then offer free, one-on-one meetings with an attorney to give legal advice. All participants must complete a screening process before speaking with an attorney about civil legal matters. November’s event will be held on Thursday, November 9.
Kankakee Kultivators present “Recycling:” The Kankakee Kultivators Garden Club will be at the library on Thursday, November 9, at 1 p.m., in the fourth floor auditorium. The club will have a free presentation on “Recycling,” with Marta Keane of Will County Recycling. No registration is required.
Local Author Julie Elroy at Library: Local author Julie Elroy will be at the library on Thursday, November 9, from 4 to 6 p.m. Elroy is a local artist and author, who has been painting for more than 30 years. She will be available at this come-and-go event to discuss and sign copies of her latest book – “Never Thirsty: Quenching Your Spiritual Thirst with Artistic Meditations on Scripture.” Come and meet this talented local author.
Library Closed in Observance of Veterans’ Day: The library will be closed on Friday, November 10, in observance of Veterans’ Day, but will resume regular business hours on Saturday, November 11, at 9 a.m.
SNAP Assistance: The Northern Illinois Food Bank will be at the library on Wednesday, November 15, between 1 and 4 p.m., to assist with applying for the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program, otherwise known as SNAP. Thanksgiving Holiday Closings: The library will be closing at 5 p.m., on Wednesday, November 22, in observance of the Thanksgiving Holiday. It also will be closed on Thursday, November 23, and Friday, November 24. The library resumes normal hours on Saturday, November 25, at 9 a.m.
