Argo High School’s girls varsity tennis has won the South Suburban Red conference title for the fourth time in school history.

Prior to this season, the last title was won in 2017.

This year’s team consists of Gabriela Dabrowski, Olivia Dlugi, Abigail Grenier, Julia Grenier, Ashley Jauregui, Sofia Jauregui-Ibarra, Athena Litsogiannis, Olivia Lopez, Lana Murphy, Isabel Sieczka, Kaylynn Thiele, and Angela Zatloka.

The conference tournament follows a similar structure as regular season matches, said Varsity Coach Taylor Loux.

“We have two players that play in singles matches and six players that play in three separate doubles matches. This results in a total of five positions, 1S, 2S, 1D, 2D, 3D. Each win in the conference tournament earns points for the team in addition to the player(s) advancing in the bracket. The team that has the most points is the conference champion. In the case of a tie, the team that has the most first place finishes earns the title.”

“This year, we were able to secure the victory with each portion of our lineup playing very well in the tournament. Our first singles player, Lana Murphy, won her flight. Our second singles player, Olivia Dlugi, finished fourth. Our first doubles team, Angela Zatloka and Gabi Dabrowski, finished second. Our second doubles team, Julia Grenier and Abbi Grenier, won their flight. Our third doubles team, Ashley Jauregui and Olivia Lopez, finished third. This led to overall earned a total of 21 points that tied us with Shepard. It came down to the number of championships won, and we had two. Shepard had one. This meant that we won the conference title.

“We have four especially strong senior leaders that have worked tirelessly over the past few years to progress to a place where a conference title was achievable. Our captains Angela, Gabi, Julia, and Lana have been the driving force behind our team’s success. Their dedication to the sport and their roles as leaders has not only guided our team to success on the court but has also played a pivotal role in fostering a strong sense of community within our tennis program. We played a packed schedule this season with over 30 matches to prepare for the conference tournament, and these girls finished with some of the best records in Argo Tennis history. I am so proud of the accomplishments of this group and am looking forward to seeing all of the great things they do after leaving Argo.”

There are six All-Conference players this year. Singles player: Lana Murphy.  Doubles Teams: Gabriela Dabrowski & Angela Zatloka, Abigail Grenier & Julia Grenier.
