As the Chair of the Will County Board, I support Mayor D’Arcy’s request to have Joliet Township withdraw their asylum grant application. I am very concerned the County’s Health Department, the Sheriff’s Department, as well as many other county departments can efficiently and monetarily support thousands of asylum seekers. In my opinion, it was extremely irresponsible for Joliet Township to apply for this grant without notifying the City of Joliet and Will County. I know there have been other open and on-going conversations with the Joliet Township Supervisor on other subjects; there is no reason this topic was not discussed.
I did not have a conversation with the Joliet Township Supervisor and, much like the Mayor of Joliet, I was unaware Joliet Township applied for this grant.
This is an ongoing situation and should be discussed countywide, with the Will County Board included, before any decisions are made that affect the residents of Will County. The Will County Board is responsible first to their constituents and, as such, needs to have a seat at the table when these decisions are being made.

I give kudos to the MAYOR WE DONT HAVE THE RESOURCES FOR ACCOMMODATIONS we have
Homeless people here we have senior citizens that don’t
Eat because they cut their food cards to $25.00 !!! We struggle as Americans this is my country now and it has not treated me kindly!!! I say build the wall send them back they come sick we can’t not.send the busses back!At the state line !!!
There should be more checks and balances and what other suprise do we don’t know about ? Did he overcome his administration procedures with malfeasance or nonfeasance? Did he cause more services to berendered than we can afford when the monies from the grant dry up ?
He should use the money for the citizens of will county who are homeless .I am homeless and living in a motel.i have a job but apartment complexes are full and they are putting people on waiting lists.i have court based rental assistance but what do you do when there is no apartment.
This is a county wide governmental problem that need to be corrected. How does the township board almost commit the city and county to a program that has long term financial and social impacts? Mr, Contreras and the other township board members behaviors need to be investigated. We need to have representation at every city, township and county level meeting to provide information to the involved citizens. Get the meeting schedules and plan to be there.
