Landscape Painting – A Learning Series: The library is pleased to offer “Landscape Painting: A Learning Series” on the first three Tuesdays in October – October 3, 10, and 17, from 9:30 to 11 a.m., in the fourth floor gallery. Instruction will be provided by Aaron Raschka of Prederick’s Emporium. Participants will learn basic techniques and get group instruction, as well as one-on-one time, as needed. Attendees will need to bring their own supplies. This event is free, but registration is requested, by calling the library.

Library closed in Observance of Indigenous Peoples’ Day: The library will be closed on Monday, October 9, in observance of Indigenous Peoples’ Day and will resume regular business hours on Tuesday, October 10, at 9 a.m.

Tuesday Morning Book Discussion: The Tuesday Morning Book Discussion is held on the second Tuesday of each month at 10 a.m. The book discussion for Tuesday, October 10, will feature the New York Times bestseller “Sold on a Monday,” by Kristina McMorris. This program is free and open to the public. Join us and add your voice to the discussion!

“Fall Fest Charcuterie Boards for the Holiday:” The Kankakee Kultivators Garden Club will hold its monthly program at the Kankakee Public Library on Thursday, October 12, at 1 p.m. The topic for October’s program is “Fall Fest Charcuterie Boards for the Holidays.” This regular program is free and open to the public. No registration is required. It will be held in the fourth floor auditorium.

Lawyers in the Library: In partnership with the library, Prairie State Legal Services invites residents to meet with a lawyer in the library on the second Thursday of every month from 9:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Representatives from Prairie State will give a brief presentation on their services and then offer free, one-on-one meetings with an attorney to give legal advice. All participants must complete a screening process before speaking with an attorney about civil legal matters. October’s Lawyers in the Library event will be held on Thursday, October 12.

Nurse in the Library: Through a partnership with Ascension St. Mary, the library is hosting a Registered Nurse (RN) in the library on Friday, October 13, from 9 a.m. until 1 p.m. Access to the compassionate help you deserve is now just as easy as checking out a book!

The nurse can help you get back on track with a variety of specialized aid, including but not limited to: Referrals to community resources, such as employment, food pantries, behavioral health services, and more; assistance with applying for benefits; confidential consultations and assessments; and referrals to healthcare providers. Bingo with the Books: Looking for a place to play fun, free bingo? Join us for Bingo with the Books at the library on Friday, October 13, from 10 a.m. to noon, for a chance to win an assortment of prizes. Bingo will be held in the fourth floor auditorium, with snacks available! Invite friends and relatives to play along.

SNAP Assistance at Library: The Northern Illinois Food Bank will be at the library on Friday, October 20, between 1 and 4 p.m., to assist with applying for the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program, otherwise known as SNAP.
