A total of 565 incoming freshmen received scholarships from the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire for the 2023-24 academic year, and many students received multiple awards, with each varying in amount and criteria. Local recipients include: From Manhattan – Molly Marquardt, Freshmen Honors Scholarship and Out-of-State Award; and Cullen Seville, Out-of-State Award, from New Lenox.

Nina Demma, of New Lenox, participated in the Dr. James Girard Summer Undergraduate Research Experience (SURE) at Lewis University. SURE is a collaborative experience that includes working one-on-one with a faculty mentor and offers an experiential learning environment that accelerates their research careers. Many students presented their outcomes at conferences and/or via publications. Demma, one of 13 Lewis University students who researched a variety of topics, is an environmental science major and presented “Using Molecular Approach to Compare Bacterial Communities Found in Zebra Mussels and Daphnia Microbiomes,” with faculty mentor Dr. Jerry Kavouras, professor of biology.

Sixteen new Resident Assistants, as well as three Residence Life Coordinators, were added to Lewis University’s growing Residence Life team this fall. Thomas Juricek, of New Lenox, is among the new team members. The new team members bring unique perspectives and a wealth of experiences to the residence halls. The RAs serve as mentors, friends, and leaders, helping residents navigate the exciting journey of college life. Residence Life Coordinators play a pivotal role in shaping residence life programs, providing guidance to RAs, and ensuring residents feel at home on the Romeoville campus.
