ILHS: On Tuesday, September 12, Illinois Lutheran High School hosted Clifton Central in an RVC match. Clifton jumped out to an early lead in the first set to go up 14-8. The Chargers were able to get to within 3 at 19-22, but a Clifton side out and 2 straight points gave the set to Clifton 25-19. The second set was close throughout, with several lead changes, but the Chargers were able to finish with a 26-24 win. In the deciding set, the Chargers were in a big hole after two big service runs by Clifton. Emma Nagle stepped to the service line at 8-23 and served for 9 straight points, including 4 aces, but the deficit was too much to make up, and the Chargers lost the thirds set and match, 16-25.
Emma Nagle ended with 12 service points, 5 aces, 12 assists, 1 kill, and 8 digs. Marisol Tafolla added 1 ace, 4 kills and 8 digs. Mia Jacobucci tallied 4 aces and 8 digs, Anna Oestmann had 6 kills and 5 digs, while Kailey Van Es ended with 8 assists, 3 kills, 7 digs, and 1 block assist.
On Thursday, September 14, the Chargers traveled to Beecher for another RVC match. The Chargers lost in two sets, 10-25, 17-25. Kailey Van Es had 2 aces, 4 assists, 1 kill, and 1 dig. Anna Oestmann ended with 4 kills and 5 digs, while Mia Jacobucci tallied 1 assist, 2 kills, and 4 digs.
The Chargers are now 5-9 overall and 3-3 in the RVC.
Peotone: In a home non-conference match on September 11, the varsity Blue Devils came home with a win against Grant Park, 15-25, 25-22, 25-20. Unfortunately, the freshmen team lost to the Dragons 16-25 and 17-25, while the sophomores also lost in closer games, 21-25 and 24-26.
For the Blue Devils, Mia Connolley had 8 kills and 3 points, Ashley Veltman 9 kills and 1 block, Alexa Matichak – 7 kills, and Allie Werner 5 kills, 1 ace, and 5 points.
