Pulled from car, shot dead

Adams

A 34-year-old man was shot and killed in a crime that occurred in front of 6419 S. Artesian at 5:10 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 10. Travell Adams was shot in the left leg and arm after he was pulled out of a car by another person in the car. Adams was taken to the University of Chicago Hospital, where he was pronounced dead at 5:54 p.m. According to public records, Adams had been arrested in recent years and charged with drug and weapons crimes, as well as violating parole by having contact with street gang members.

Slain inside Gage Park home

A 21-year-old man was shot and killed inside a home at 4919 S. Maplewood just before 2 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 9. Trevon Moye was discovered unresponsive by a family member, police said. He had multiple gunshot wounds to his head and was pronounced dead at the scene. No one is in custody.

Off-duty Sheriff’s Deputy shot at 47/Cicero

An off-duty Cook County Sheriff’s deputy was shot as he was caught in crossfire at 47^th and Cicero at 8:52 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 9. Police said the 37-year-old victim was driving his vehicle when gunfire erupted from two northbound vehicles. The deputy was shot in the lower back and right elbow. He was taken to Mount Sinai Hospital, where he was listed in critical condition. One of the vehicles with a shooter inside then struck a southbound vehicle, causing the driver to lose control and strike the wall of a nearby business. The driver then bolted. Police said after a short foot pursuit, he was apprehended. But they declined to disclose his identity and said earlier this week that no one is in custody in connection with the shooting.

Teen shot in Back of the Yards

A 17-year-old boy was shot twice in the leg in a crime that occurred in the 4900 block of South Seeley at about 12:30 a.m. Monday, Aug. 14. The teen was taken to Mount Sinai Hospital, where he was listed in good condition. The victim told police he was shot by two men on foot. No one is in custody.

Shot in the leg in Back of the Yards

A 46-year-old woman was shot in the right leg as she stood on a sidewalk in the 5100 block of South Wood just before 1 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 12. She was taken to the university of Chicago Hospital, where she was listed in good condition. Police said the shooter fired from a vehicle described only as a sedan. No one is in custody.

Shot in the hand on Talman

A 21-year-old man was shot in the right hand as he stood on a sidewalk in the 7200 block of South Talman at 2:41 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 12. The victim was transported to Holy Cross Hospital, where he was listed in good condition. No one is in custody.

Claim man tried to murder pizza driver

            A 46-year-old South Shore man has been charged with attempted murder in connection with a shooting an at Ashburn pizzeria. Marcus Brown, of the 7600 block of South Bennett, was arrested by police in the 1900 block of West Ogden on Wednesday, Aug. 9.

They said he was positive identified as the man who attempted to rob Pizza Nova Express, 3836 W. 79^th St., at gunpoint at 8:57 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 8. Police said a 35-year-old pizza delivery driver fought Brown and was shot in the leg during the struggle. The driver was transported to Advocate Christ Medical Center, where he was listed in fair condition. Bond was denied, and Brown was due in court on Wednesday, Aug. 16.

Shot as he drives up Western

            A 35-year-old man was shot in the left foot as he drove north in the 4300 block of South Western at about 1:45 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 9. The victim was taken to Holy Cross Hospital, where he was listed in good condition. No one is in custody.

Two shot in McKinley Park

A 19-year-old man and a 17-year-old boy were shot as they rode in a southbound vehicle near Pershing and Western at about 1 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 10. The man suffered a graze wound to his right shoulder, and the boy was struck in the left leg. They were taken to Mount Sinai Hospital, where they were listed in good condition. They told police the shooter rode in a white sedan. No one is in custody.

Brighton barricade situation ends peacefully

A barricade incident in Brighton Park last week ended without injuries, police said. Officers were summoned to a home in the 2900 block of West 47^th Street at 8:48 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 10. Police said “two known male offenders barricaded themselves” and that gunfire was heard inside. A police SWAT team surrounded the building, and the two surrendered without incident. Police declined to name the two they apprehended or offer any other details.

Charge 2 with Brighton Park robberies

Pirtle

            Two West Side men have been charged with nine felony counts of armed robbery in connection with a crime that occurred in Brighton Park last week. Jamie Pirtle, 23, of the 5800 block of West Rice; and Eddie Williams, 21, of the 300 block of South Western, were arrested on at 1:32 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 9 in the 3900 block of South Archer. Police said they were identified as two of the three men who, an hour earlier, entered a business on the same block and took property at gunpoint.

Police declined to name the business or say what allegedly was taken.

Both Pirtle and Williams were held in the custody of the Cook County Department of Corrections and were due in court Wednesday, Aug. 16.

Charge woman with domestic battery

Mendez

A 30-year-old Gage Park woman was charged with domestic battery after she was arrested at her home in the 2800 block of West 55^th Street at 3:10 a.m. Tuesday, Aug. 1.

Imelda G. Mendez allegedly punched a 45-year-old woman in the face during an argument.

According to the public records, Mendez was arrested by CPD at 5436 S. Kedzie in August 2021 and charged with DUI, failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident and driving on a suspended license.

Say man violated court order

Hernandez

A 66-year-old Back of the Yards man was charged with violating an order of protection after he was arrested at his home in the 4300 block of South Honore at 7:31 p.m. Monday, July 31. Manuel Z. Hernandez allegedly made contact with a 33-year-old woman, in violation of a court order. According to public records, Hernandez has been arrested three times by CPD since March 2022 on charges that included assault, aggravated assault and battery.

Garcia Ramirez

A 37-year-old Back of the Yards man was charged with domestic battery after he was arrested on the front porch of his home at 1:13 a.m. Sunday, July 30. Jose Anthonia Garcia-Ramirez allegedly hit a 21-year-old woman during an argument. Charges of aggravated battery of a peace officer and attempting to disarm a peace officer were added after he allegedly fought with an officer at the scene. Later, two more counts of aggravated battery of a peace officer were added after Garcia-Ramirez allegedly fought with officers at the University of Chicago Hospital, reportedly punching one in the chest and kicking another in the face. 

Charge woman with drug possession

Wenker

A 34-year-old Back of the Yards woman was charged with possession of a controlled substance after she was arrested while walking in the 1600 block of West 50^th Street at 8:27 p.m. Monday, July 31. Rachel M. Wenker, of the 4900 block of South Loomis, was found to be carrying a plastic bag with a small amount of a white, powdery substance, a CPD spokesman said. According to public records, Wenker has been arrested eight times since 2019 on such charges as DUI, criminal trespass to land and illegally transporting open alcohol in a vehicle.

Araujo

A 39-year-old Garfield Ridge man was charged with domestic battery after he was arrested at his home in the 5100 block of South Mulligan at 3:15 a.m. Sunday, July 16. Jonathan Araujo allegedly pushed a 35-year-old woman during an argument, a CPD spokesman said.

Claim man smashed door’s glass

Sears

A 31-year-old Clearing man was charged with criminal damage to property after he was arrested in the 6000 block of West 64^th Street at 9:14 a.m. Wednesday, July 5. Eric E. Sears, of the 6000 block of South Moody, allegedly smashed the glass in the storm door of a home. Police said they made the discovery as they responded to a “domestic disturbance” call. According to public records, Sears was arrested by CPD in September 2022 at 65^th and Narragansett and charged with battery.

Charged with attempted theft

Rogers

A 56-year-old Mokena man was charged with attempted theft after he was arrested at a business at 7001 W. 60^th St. at 8:50 a.m. Wednesday, July 12. William Anthony Rogers, of the 19400 block of South Stonehenge, allegedly tried to steal an item but was confronted by a 34-year-old employee, a CPD spokesman said without elaborating.

Abdur-Rahman

A 33-year-old Brainerd man was charged with two counts of domestic battery after he was arrested after a traffic crash in the 6300 block of South Central at 3:53 a.m. Sunday, July 16. Hassan Abdur-Rahman, of the 9000 block of South Laflin, allegedly struck his 33-year-old ex-girlfriend, as well as her 18-year-old son, during a domestic dispute in the 600 block of South Menard. Police said he then drove away, ran a red light at 63^rd and Central and crashed into another vehicle. He was charged with failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident, criminal damage to property and driving on a suspended license. According to public records, Abdur-Rahman has been arrested four times by CPD since 2021. He has been charged with driving on a suspended license three times.
