From staff reports

The Palos Park Community Emergency Response Team is launching its first Challenge Coin.

Officer Frank Flores is inviting community members to support the Palos Park Community Emergency Response Team Challenge coin.

The Palos Park Community Emergency Response Team is comprised of community members who volunteer to help the Village of Palos Park when the need arises. They have designed a challenge coin to raise funds for their volunteer organization.

The 2023 CERT challenge coin project goal is raising funds for the program to obtain assorted equipment to enhance their abilities during community activations, search and rescue operations.

Palos Park Mayor Nicole Milovich Walters said, our Palos Park CERT program volunteers are an important part of our community and always willing to go “above and beyond” to serve our community, particularly in an emergency.

The Community Emergency Response Team program is a nationally supported, locally implemented initiative that teaches people how to better prepare themselves for hazards that may affect their communities. Since 1993,  CERT trains the public in basic disaster response skills such as team organization, disaster medical operations, fire safety, and light search and rescue. The ability for CERT volunteers to perform these activities frees up professional responders to focus their efforts on more complex, essential, and critical tasks.

The Palos Park CERT Challenge coins are $10 each. For information, please contact the CERT Coordinator, Officer Frank Flores, via email fflores@palospark.org
