Voices of the Past
Kankakee County, “Voices of the Past” Cemetery Walk will be held on Sunday, August 27, at Mound Grove Cemetery. Tours begin at 11 a.m. and 2 p.m., but guests are asked to arrive 30 minutes prior to the tour time. (Also, please enter on the south side of the cemetery off Rt. 50, then exit on the north side.)
Sponsored by Clancy-Gernon Funeral Home, this bi-annual event brings the fascinating history of Kankakee County to life. Participants will be led to various gravesites where actors in period costumes share something about the lives of the people they are portraying, offering a unique perspective of the time period in which they lived. As a result of a guided history lesson, visitors will leave with a better understanding of Kankakee County’s rich heritage through the lives of its former residents.
Historic people portrayed this year include: Calista Currier Small, Leslie Small, Thomas Durham, Hamilton K. Wheeler, Richard Dewey, William and Frederick Swannell, Helen Huling, and James McGrew.
Please wear walking shoes and be prepared for walking through uneven terrain.
Admission is $10 for adults, $8 – museum member adults, or $5 for children 12 and under. Credit card tickets may be purchased in advance at the Kankakee County Museum or on their website at www.kankakeecountymuseum.com.
