Experience a taste of France in Kankakee when the French Heritage Museum’s outdoor lot is transformed into a picturesque Parisian Cafe. To be held Friday, July 14, from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m., at 165 N. Indiana Avenue, this Bastille Day Celebration will feature wine tastings, paired hors d’oeuvres, live folk music, and more.
Folk musician Brad Fetterer will serenade guests as Flight 102 and Philo Collective provide hors d’oeuvres and treats. Wear your favorite French beret or scarf and pose as Peaches’ Photobooth provides photo ops. Tickets are $10 per person ($8 for museum members) and may be purchased through the Kankakee County Museum website (www.kankakeecountymuseum.com/book-online), or by calling 815-932-5279. Note that this event is for ages 21 or older; IDs will be required for entry.

Then on Saturday, July 15, at 11 a.m., a Bastille Day Lecture will be held at the French Heritage Museum. Local genealogist Andrew Mann will discuss the French Revolution and its effects on Quebec, Canada. This topic is of particular relevance to many in the area whose families are of French Canadian descent.
The Bastille Day Lecture is free, and no advance registration is needed. Light refreshments will be provided. For those with ability constraints, please note this lecture will be held on the museum’s second floor, which is not handicap accessible. Please direct questions to 815-932-5279.
