Nick Rubino was one of seven North Central College men’s lacrosse athletes who were lauded as members of the 2023 All-College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin Team.
Rubino, a senior, became the program’s second three-time All-CCIW selection and earned a first-team nod for the first time in his career. Rubino ranked second in goals for the Cardinals this season, finding the back of the net 35 times while dishing out 24 assists (second-highest) for a team-high 59 points. His six game-winning goals led North Central.
Rubino ranks second all-time for the program in goals (100) and points (159), and fourth in assists (59).
Marist graduate was one of five Cardinals chosen to the Intercollegiate Men’s Lacrosse Coaches Association’s All-Region 5 Team, and among three who garnered second-team honors.
Rubino, who started all but one match this season, earned his first All-Region honor for his performance this season. The Chicago native scored six game-winning goals and picked up 29 ground balls as an attackman.
The Cardinals were 10-6 overall and 5-1 in the CCIW.
That’s a First
Rebecca Hallman was one of five Carroll University (Wisconsin) women’s lacrosse players chosen to the 2023 All-College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin Team. Hallman was one of four Pioneers and the only freshman on the First Team.
The Andrew from Tinley Park graduate averaged three goals, five points and two assists per game at attack in five CCIW games. Hallman led the Pioneers in assists during the CCIW season and the entire season, setting a new single-season record (30) for the program. Hallman scored 42 goals, including two game-winners, and had 72 point.
The Pioneers were 13-4 overall and 5-1 in the CCIW.
Hallman was named a two-time CCIW Offensive Student-Athlete of the Week this year and had her best conference game of the season against host Carthage, scoring eight points on five goals and three assists in a 17-4 victory on April 19. Hallman also picked up another accolade as she was named the CCIW’s 2023 First- Year Student Athlete of the Year in women’s lacrosse.
The Sooner the Better
One of the reasons the Oklahoma baseball team reached the NCAA’s Charlottesville Regional this season was the play of redshirt junior left fielder Kendall Pettis.
The Brother Rice graduate paced the Sooners in sacrifice flies with seven, was second on the team in on-base percentage (.435) and finished tied for second in triples (3). Pettis hit .309 with an OPS of .828. He had 50 runs, 17 stolen bases 55 hits and 36 walks.
Pettis appeared in 54 games for Oklahoma this season, making 53 starts. The Sooners finished 32-28.
