The Augustana College Oratorio Society, Choir, Choral Artists, and Symphony Orchestra performed Maurice Durufle’s “Requiem, Op. 9” and other choral works by French, English, and Brazilian composers, on May 7, in Rock Island. New Lenox students in the performance were Ben Radeke, Jessa Simon, Grace Strache, and Sarah Walton.

Phi Kappa Phi Honor Society: The following people recently were initiated into the Honor Society of Phi Kappa Phi, the nation’s oldest and most selective collegiate honor society for all academic disciplines. Congratulations to: Keshaun Altman – Southern Illinois University-Carbondale and  Jordan Sallis – University of Wisconsin-Madison, both from Crete; Christine Boisvert – Bradley University and Emily Vuckovich Leitschuh – Southern Illinois University-Edwardsville, both of New Lenox; and Joseph Zaylik – Western Illinois University, from Steger.

Shawna Gordon, of Manhattan, was awarded the Dean’s Purchase Award in Art, at the University of Mount Union in Ohio, at this year’s Mount Union Honors Convocation. The works entitled “Deconstruction” and “Cardinal Styx” were chosen by the Dean of the College of Arts and Humanities in recognition of the student’s outstanding achievement in art during the academic year.
