Will County State’s Attorney James Glasgow announced Searcy Warren III, 35, of Joliet, has been sentenced to seven years in prison for aggravated domestic battery against the mother of his child. Warren pled guilty in two cases, one for domestic battery (Class 4 Felony) and the other aggravated domestic battery (Class 2 Felony). He also will be subject to four years mandatory supervised release. Warren pled guilty recently before Judge Amy Bertani-Tomczak.
In the domestic battery case, on November 16, 2018, Warren had been drinking heavily inside the Joliet home of Lorena Diaz, the mother of their child. He became aggressive, and Diaz attempted to leave to call police, but Warren smashed her phone, grabbed her wrist, and put his arm around her neck to prohibit her from doing so. Officers noted redness on her wrist and neck.
While the complaint warrant in that case was outstanding, Warren again went to Diaz’s residence looking for their child on Christmas Day 2018. Warren became upset when he discovered the child wasn’t there and told Diaz he was going to beat her and proceeded to punch her repeatedly in the face and head until she lost consciousness. She was taken to the hospital for treatment.
“I obtained a federal grant in 1995 to establish our first specialized Domestic Violence Court and convened our first Domestic Violence Commission the year before. Violence against women is a cancer in our society, and this sentence helps send a message it will never be tolerated in Will County.”
Before Warren could be apprehended on the warrants, he fled to Wisconsin, where he was picked up on charges of battery and disorderly conduct in 2021. After he was sentenced in Wisconsin, he was extradited back to Will County.
Warren previously was convicted of violating an order of protection after he made contact with Diaz in violation of the order on August 11, 2017. He will receive 171 days credit for time served.
