A memo to the Illinois General Assembly that states Will County’s position in opposition to the long discussed Peotone Airport became the center of prolonged bickering at the April 20 Will County Board meeting. A group of members objected to the memo because it did not include language demanding the county have a voice in decisions being made about the project at the state level. An attempt to remove the position on the airport project overall from the county’s legislative agenda document to be sent to Springfield failed. The bill (2531) was assigned to Executive Committee on April 12 and was still there as of April 21.
In other business, the Will County Board approved the spending of $745,886 in county transportation funds on two projects. “D” Construction was awarded a contract worth $334,986 for an overlay of Renwick and other roadways in the McKenna Woods subdivision in Plainfield.
The board also appropriated $410,900 in funds for the Acquisition of Necessary Right-of-Way, by Agreement or Condemnation, and Other Right-of-Way Costs Associated with the Improvements for West River Road (CH 26) from Coal City Road to Rt. 53. The board voted to approve the use of $1,201,194.50 in Motor Fuel Tax money to award a contract to Iroquois Paving Corp. for the Cedar Road (CH 4) resurfacing from Rt. 52 north to Laraway Road.
