On April 18, the Village of Peotone plans to celebrate Earth Day with Aqua Illinois by painting water preservation messages near the city’s storm drains. The “Only Rain, Down the Drain” storm drain stenciling project is a coordinated effort to raise awareness of how the public can help reduce the release of pollution into the city’s natural water systems.
Most city drains empty directly into the nearest body of water without being treated, which means any trash or contaminants, such as oil, fertilizers, detergents, and dog waste, emptied into a storm drain end up polluting local water sources.
Aqua, an Essential Utilities Company, launched Essential Earth Day in 2022. The company-wide initiative expands Aqua’s long history of environmental stewardship. The “Only Rain, Down the Drain” project demonstrates Aqua’s dedication to the well-being of the communities it serves, and the commitment to providing and protecting Earth’s most essential resource.
