Members of all three Palos School District 118 student councils collected over $3,100 during a March fundraiser to benefit those impacted by the earthquakes in Syria and Turkey.

In addition, students at Palos East and West elementary schools and Palos South Middle School also collected 25 boxes of essential supplies that will also be donated to the humanitarian relief efforts.

Donated items included tents, sleeping bags, blankets, and other necessities such as diapers, socks, hats, and gloves.

All funds and items were donated to the Zakat Foundation of America, a Bridgeview-based nonprofit agency that is coordinating relief efforts for those impacted by the earthquakes.

I’m continually impressed by the generosity of our students and school community who are always willing to step up and support those in need wherever they may live,” said Scarsella.
