For the March Local Business Spotlight, State Rep. Jackie Haas recognized a local Bourbonnais business. She presented a certificate to owners Joshua Vaughn and Catherine Hilgeman to recognize this small business’ importance in the community.
“Nothing says home like good food made by our neighbors,” said Rep. Haas. “Vaughn’s Kitchen serves famous Alfredo and Alfredo fries that bring comfort to all who dine there. They are a great family restaurant for the 79th District and Bourbonnais area, and it was terrific to honor them this month. I look forward to the future plans of Chef Vaughn to make his food more accessible to our communities, so we can share in his delicious recipes.”
Chef Joshua Vaughn began his career cooking dishes at home when he was 12 years old, since his parents worked midnight shifts, and he did not like fast food. He would cook full-course meals for his sisters and parents three days a week.
Up until four years ago, he worked at a chemical plant in Kankakee, where he was exposed to dangerous chemicals, causing him to quit and find another job. Between jobs, he catered food for friends, basketball teams, and others. Word got out about his famous homemade Alfredo, grilled foods, and desserts, so he went on to open a restaurant in Northfield Square Mall in Bradley. He then expanded to a larger location in Bourbonnais.
The new location for Vaughn’s Kitchen is 161 E. Bethel Drive in Bourbonnais, right off Rt. 45, behind Dunkin’ Donuts. Hours are Tuesday – Saturday, from 11:30 a.m. to 8 p.m.
Individuals may nominate a local business they love in the 79th District by contacting Rep. Haas’ office via phone or email.
