Lake Forest College’s Alex Knight has been named to the All-Midwest Conference First Team in men’s basketball for the 2022-23 season.
Knight, a 6-foot-1 sophomore guard who prepped at Marist, was the league’s leading scorer this season, averaging 18.1 points per conference game. He finished third in the MWC in field goal percentage (52.6 percent) and fifth in assists with 2.9 assists per game. His 1.1 steals and 5.1 rebounds per game ranked 13th and 16th, respectively.
Knight scored in double figures in 15 of 16 conference contests and had 20 or more points in five. He averaged 22 points on 56.3 percent shooting from the field over the final eight games.
Overall, he averaged 16 points, 4.6 rebounds and three assists in 25 games. He shot 51.3 percent from the field, 38.2 percent from 3-point range and 68.7 percent from the free-throw line.
Lake Forest was 11-14 overall and posted an 8-8 record in MWC play to finish fifth in the league.
The Foresters have had at least one player earn All-MWC honors in each of the last seven full seasons, and a first-team selection each of the last four.
Follow the Norse star
Northern Kentucky outfielder Ella LeMonier was chosen the Horizon League Softball Player of the Week for Feb. 14.
LeMonier, an Andrew graduate, helped the Norse make school history with their first Power Five win in program history when they defeated Michigan State, 3-1, on Feb. 12.
At the Texas A&M Invitational, the junior hit .556 over five starts. She had 10 hits, two RBI, three runs scored and five stolen bases. LeMonier led the Horizon League in hits and stolen bases that week.
Through the first 22 games of the season, the Orland Hills resident is batting .356 with an OPS of .810. She’s added 16 runs, one double, one triple and six RBI.
LeMonier has an on-base percentage of .413 and is 10-of-11 in stolen bases.LeMonier is the first Northern Kentucky softball player sincee February 202 to be chosen Horizon League Player of the Week.
Kane is able
Mother McAuley graduate Nancy Kane was one of 10 members of the Notre Dame women’s volleyball team to be selected to the 2022-23 All-Atlantic Coast Conference Academic Team.
Kane, a senior who is majoring in American Studies, was a defensive specialist/libero and appeared in 26 matches this season for the Irish. She tallied 10 service aces and 16 digs as Notre Dame finished 10-18 overall and 5-13 in the ACC.
