Stephen J. Luszczek, age 56, passed away March 3.

MaloneyJUDGE EDWARD MALONEY

The Honorable Edward M. Maloney died March 9. He was 71.

Judge Maloney was elected to the bench in 2012 after serving 34 years as a trial attorney. He was assigned to First Municipal District Branch 44 Courthouse where he presided over probable cause hearings in felony cases.

Judge Maloney was known for his expertise in DUI law and has litigated many cases involving DUI arrests, served on related task forces, and helped to craft legislation on the issue.

He also was legal counsel for 20 years for the Chicago Police Sergeants Association. He was a graduate of John Marshall Law School.

Prior to being elected a judge, he served as president of the board of trustees of the Lyons Township School Treasurer’s Office from 2005 to 2012.

He also was president of the Glenwood Springs Association in Geneva Lake, Wis.

He was the beloved husband of 44 years to Cheryl (nee Hartley), devoted father of Tucker (Katy) Maloney, Lydia Maloney, and Nial Maloney. Proud Papa of Fyona and Mabel. Loving son of the late Michael and Eileen Maloney. Cherished brother of Michael (Dawn) Maloney. Adored uncle of Michael, Bridget, Courtney and the late Tara.

Visitation was Wednesday at the Robert J. Sheehy & Sons Funeral Home, 9000 W. 151st Street, Orland Park, and Thursday at 10 a.m. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. at Emmanuel Episcopal Church, 203 S. Kensington Ave., LaGrange. Interment private.

Arturo V. Melendez, age 89, longtime resident for over 60 years in Summit, passed away peacefully February 28.

He was the beloved husband of the late Carmen (nee Galvan); loving father of Arturo Jr. (Debbie) Melendez and Jose M.P.P.D. (Kelly) Melendez; proud grandfather of Vivian Melendez, Mackenzie Melendez M.P.D. and Stephanie Melendez; dear brother of Miguel (Teresa) Melendez and one brother and many sisters in Mexico. Arturo was preceded in death by his two brothers, Guadalupe and Trinidad Melendez. He will be remembered dearly by his many nieces and nephews, neighbors and friends.

Friends and family met March 4 at St. Blasé Church for a visitation followed by a Mass of Christian burial.
