The Peotone School Board meeting was business as usual. Three board members, Dawn Love, Tim Stoub, and Jennifer Moe were absent.
The milk contract was approved. There’s a $0.02 increase per half pint.
The asbestos abatement bid for Peotone Intermediate Center came in at $42,300 and was unanimously approved. Work will be completed this summer.
The flooring project at PIC was also unanimously approved for $58,884.12 from Consolidated Flooring.
Approval of the 2023 Landscaping Service Bid was approved with Board member Jodi Becker voting no. The low bid was Gino’s Landscaping for a total of $1,735. The high was Total Property Management for a total of $2,700.
PHS will be offering credit recovery and ESY (extended school year) this summer. Credit recovery will be offered only to students who are deficient in graduation requirements. ESY will be offered to those students with a documented need in their IEP’s (individual education plans).
Roxanne Manning spoke at the end of the meeting. Manning is a retired nurse and came to express her concern over the safety of students at the district schools. She said the violence is everywhere and she wants to know what steps are being taken to ensure the safety of 207U students. District schools are not equipped with cameras or metal detectors. Superintendent Steve Stein has said that the district has a goal to add security cameras in the future. While there was no reply to her commentary from the board, they thanked her for coming to speak.
