At its February 21 meeting, the Manteno Village Board passed an ordinance amending the Village Health and Sanitation Code, with a new chapter that specifically addresses garbage, debris, and graffiti on private property. Mayor Tim Nugent said the amended code will give the village authority to take specific action to deal with problem properties in Manteno, if an owner refuses to respond to a request for cleaning up trash. The move was taken in response to a recent complaint of such a property made before the board, where the upset complaintants were told the village had no enforcement authority to deal with the issue.
Also at the meeting, trustees were introduced to Manteno’s new Marketing and Public Relations Director, Jakob Knox, who is replacing Sarah Marion. Marion quit the post to pursue her own business interests. Knox’s first day on the job will be February 27. He most recently worked for Milner Media Partners, a Bourbonnais based company that owns three local radio stations: WVLI – known as The Valley, WIVR – known as River Country, and WFAV. Knox held the position of Sales and Marketing Representative at Milner.
