The Monee Historical Society Board of Directors has elected officers to serve during the 2023-2024 term.
Secretary Phyllis V. Huffman and Treasurer Nancy Langenfeld join President Christina Holston and Vice President William (Billy) Morgan, whose terms expire in 2024.
Founded in 2015, the Monee Historical Society (MHS) is an offshoot of the Save the Monee Creamery Foundation created in 2011 by Holston and her husband, David. It was established “to educate, inspire and enrich the community by preserving and promoting the rich history of the Monee area through its collections, events and programming.”
The Creamery now is a designated landmark in Will County, and the 501(c)3 non-profit MHS continues to carry out that vital mission for generations to come. The Monee Heritage Center at the Creamery is a proud beacon to those who live in and visit the Village of Monee.
Anyone interested in joining the Monee Historical Society is welcome to do so. MHS membership is open to all. Annual dues (beginning at just $25 for an individual membership) are collected each January, so now is an opportune time to consider becoming a new member or giving a gift membership.
Memberships support the Monee Heritage Center at the Creamery in its continuing efforts to preserve and interpret the village and township’s unique history, provide quality educational opportunities for students and adults, host special events, promote local tourism, maintain the heritage center property, enhance the local economy, and encourage community pride in Monee’s past, present and future. Membership meetings are held monthly at the heritage center and are open to the public.
While members are under no obligation to become involved with society activities, those wishing to become active members are encouraged to do so. Various volunteer opportunities are available throughout the year. Residents also can support the heritage center by attending special events, making purchases at the Monee Heritage Center at the Creamery, and encouraging friends to do the same.
