Argo teacher Kyle Stern awarded ISBE Award
Argo Community High School District 217 announced that mathematics teacher Kyle Stern has received the Award of Meritorious Service in the Teacher category from the Illinois State Board of Education.
Awards are presented in seven categories: classroom teachers, early career educators (teachers 1-4 years), school administrators, student support personnel, educational service personnel, community volunteers, and teams.
Application materials are evaluated by a selection committee composed of individuals who represent a variety of educational organizations.
Stern was selected based on his profession and his submission materials.
He will be honored at the 49th annual Those Who Excel & Teacher of the Year Awards Banquet on April 29 at a location to be determined.
“We are proud that one of our own has been selected to receive this award,” stated Argo Supt. Dr. William C. Toulios. “Argo Community High School District 217 is fortunate to have the best and brightest in this profession preparing our students for post-academic paths.”
School Principal Brandon Cotter also congratulated Stern.
“On behalf of the district, I would like to congratulate Kyle Stern for being named a recipient of the Illinois State Board of Education 2023 Those Who Excel & Teacher Of The Year Meritorious Service Award,” Cotter said. “Since 1970, the Illinois State Board of Education has sponsored the Those Who Excel & Teacher of the Year program to honor educators who have made significant contributions to our state’s public and nonpublic elementary and secondary schools. Awards are presented in seven categories: classroom teachers, early career educators (teachers 1-4 years), school administrators, student support personnel, educational service personnel, community volunteers, and teams. All awardees are honored at an annual banquet in the spring.”
Stern was honored to hear of the award.
“It is an absolute honor to be given the award of Meritorious Service in the Teacher category from the Illinois State Board of Education,” he said. “I have taught math at Argo High School for 22 years now and it has been the honor of my lifetime to work at this school and in this community. I would like to thank my wife and children for all the support they have given me as well as the Argo School Board, Administration, my fellow teachers, support and custodial/Maintenace staff and of course my students and their parents and guardians. Argo is a wonderful place to work. I am a very lucky person.”
