A youth spoken word showcase February 18.

Harbor House, in partnership with the Illinois Coalition for Community Services, Kankakee Public Library, the Kankakee County State’s Attorney’s Office, and the City Life Streets to Work Program are happy to announce “Love Is…?” – a youth spoken word showcase, on Saturday, February 18, from 4-6 p.m., at the City Life Center, 1820 E. Court Street, Kankakee.

“The goal for this event is to give local youth the opportunity to raise awareness about teen dating violence and what love should be in a fun, open, and creative space,” said Jenny Schoenwetter, executive director of Harbor House.

Jeronimo Speaks, a popular spoken word and Hip Hop Artist in the Midwest, will be the emcee and perform at the event. Jeronimo has released three spoken word EPs and has been awarded Spoken Word Artist of the Year by the P.O.E.T Organization. This event also includes catering by Kountry Gurlz Kitchen, as well as free raffles.

Performers are to be between the ages of 12 and 25, pieces must relate to the “Love Is” theme, and material must be appropriate for all ages. If someone would like to perform, they can register at harborhousedv.org/events.

This free event is an open event to the community. To learn more about how to sign up, visit harborhousedv.org/events, call 815-932-5814, or email info@harborhousedv.org.
