A strong all-around team effort and a runner-up performance by Ethan Deluna powered Reavis to the championship of the IC Catholic Sectional and a trip to the state tournament.

The Rams totaled 6338 to top second-place Glenbrook North by 100 pins on Jan. 21 at Bowlero in Glendale Heights. Lyons finished third with 6163.

Those three teams along with Naperville Central, Hinsdale South and St. Ignatius advanced to the state tournament, which will be held Friday, Jan. 27 and Saturday, Jan. 28 at St. Claire Bowl in Fairview Heights.

The Rams’ Deluna, a senior, rolled a 1404 series and had a high game of 278. He led eventual champion Ryan Kabic of Glenbard East (1439) by five pins heading into the fifth game.

The Reavis lineup also featured seniors Colin Quartuccio (1251), Geovani Guidarelli (1240) and Ethan Schultz (1218), and junior Nick Santana (1225).

The Rams are headed to the state tournament for the seventh time in program history and sixth consecutive season. The sectional championship is the program’s second, with the first coming in 2009.

Lyons was led by senior Drew Escamilla, who finished with 1354 and had a high game of 258. Seniors Matt Skwarek (1268), Tommy Hennessee (1231), Nick Boxel (1116) and Michael Kubick (756), and sophomore Danny Haley (438) also contributed to the Lions’ effort.

St. Laurence (5540) finished 11th at the tourney and Morton (5526) placed 12th. The Vikings were paced by senior Marco Cedillo, who had the team’s high game (247) and series (1251). Freshman Desmond Zuro had the Mustangs’ high game (232) and series (1183).
