American Veterans Service Dog Academy announces partnership with KCC.

Beginning January 21, from 8:30 – 11 a.m., at KCC/AVSDA will offer a new PTSD Service Dog Handler Training Program. Through this collaboration with KCC’s Continuing Education Program, enrolled veteran students, with documented medical necessity, will be able to participate and learn the basics of training their own service dogs. This is a non-credit program.

Learning objectives include: Learning theory, applied training skills, basic care and husbandry, puppy development and socialization, public access skills, and understanding PTSD service dog tasks.

Admitted AVSDA veterans, who do not have an appropriate service dog candidate, can apply for a service dog puppy through AVSDA. Puppies-in-training will be awarded to qualified applicants at graduation, with an additional three months of training provided to program graduates awarded AVSDA puppies.

Personally owned dogs do not attend classes at KCC. AVSDA will provide adult dogs and puppies-in-training for students to practice all training skills.
