Ronald “Ron” L. Homberg, 87, of Bradley, formerly of Kankakee, passed away Thursday, January 12, 2023, at his home, after a short illness. Born on September 11, 1935, in Kankakee, he was the son of Louis J. and Ora L. (Knight) Homberg. Ron married Norma J. Bertrand on November 26, 1955, in Kankakee.

Ron was a retired Lieutenant of the Kankakee Fire Department and a former Lieutenant of the Kankakee Police Department. He was appointed to the Police Department in 1956 and appointed acting Sergeant in 1961, promoted to Sergeant in 1962, then promoted to Lieutenant in 1964. He resigned from the Police Department to join the Fire Department in 1966, where he was promoted to Lieutenant in 1973. He retired from the Kankakee Fire Department in 1986 after 20 years of service.

Ron is survived by his wife, Norma; sons and daughters-in-law, Michael (Nicole) Homberg of Joliet and Gary (Sharon) Homberg of Bourbonnais; daughter Rhonda J. Homberg of Texas; daughter-in-law Gayle E. Homberg of Pennsylvania; 16 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and sister, Suzanne (Donald) Childs of St. Anne. He was preceded in passing by his parents; and one son, Steven Homberg.

Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m., Friday, January 20, at Clancy-Gernon-Hertz Funeral Home in Kankakee. An additional visitation will be held on Saturday, January 21, from 10 until the 11 a.m. service at the funeral home, with Rev. Karl Koeppen officiating. Entombment will be in the Chapel of the Mausoleum at Mound Grove Cemetery.
