Anita L. Werner, 90, of Manteno, passed away on Wednesday, January 11, 2023, at Riverside Medical Center in Kankakee. Born on May 5, 1932, in Joliet, she was the daughter of Louis and Elsie (Harms) Marquardt. She married Eugene John Werner on February 24, 1962, at Zion Lutheran Church in Matteson. He passed away on July 26, 1985.

Anita worked earlier in her life at First National Bank in Chicago and then at Governors State University in University Park. She was a member of Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Frankfort, where she held many leadership positions and worked as the secretary. She was active in the Lutheran Women’s Missionary League, where she had served as president, and was a homemaker and loving wife, mother, and grandmother.

She is survived by her son, Mark Werner of O’Fallon; her son and daughter-in-law, Rev. Kevin (Sheryl) Werner of Manteno; grandchildren, Kayla Werner, Kelsey Werner, Anna Werner, and Luke Werner; and brother, Harold (the late Betty) Marquardt. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; and an infant sister, Ruth Ann.

A funeral service was held at Risen Savior Evangelical Lutheran Church, Manteno, on January 16, with Pastor Kevin Hahn officiating. Interment was at Manhattan Center Cemetery in Manhattan.
