At 5:03 a.m., Jaylah Resendez became the first baby born in 2023 at Franciscan Health Olympia Fields Family Birth Center on January 1.

Jaylah is the second child of Alejandra Castillo and Ahbran Resendez of Chicago Heights. She weighed in at six pounds, six ounces and was just over 18 inches long.

Families with the distinction of having the first baby born in the new year at the Family Birth Center receive a gift basket containing baby-friendly items for the infant to help parents make it through those first few weeks at home.
