Bernard “Bernie” D. Haskins, 80, of Bourbonnais, passed away Monday, December 19, 2022, at his home. Born February 13, 1942, in Chicago, he was the son of Vernon and Lillian (Stodonly) Haskins. Bernie married Cathy McCrea on October 7, 1972, in Calumet City.

Bernie was a small engine-lawnmower, chain saw, trimmer parts salesman for EECO in Kankakee, for most of his adult life. He enjoyed spending time with his family, golfing, fishing, gardening, cooking, and the opera. Bernie was a parishioner of Maternity B.V.M. Catholic Church in Bourbonnais for 49 years, where he also sung in the choir. He enjoyed volunteering in the community with camp MOSH as a team leader.

Surviving are his wife of 50 years, Cathy Haskins of Bourbonnais; sons, Brett (Kimberly) Haskins of Rhode Island and Cullen (Trinity) Haskins of Florida; daughter, Shannon (Brian) Rants of Oregon; grandchildren, Brock, Brynn, Cullen Jr., Hope, Cooper, Josephine, Elijah, Stella, Noah, and Josiah; brothers and sisters-in-law, Donald (Sharon) Haskins of Plano, Texas, Joseph Haskins of Skokie, and Jackie Haskins of Louisiana; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Mike and Sharon McCrea, Doug McCrea, Susan (McCrea) and Cliff Harstad, and Lynn (McCrea) and Alan Manchester; and many nieces and nephews.

Bernie was preceded in death by his mother, Lillian Haskins; his father and stepmother, Vernon and Esther Haskins; brothers, Marvin Haskins and Art Haskins; sister, Mary Haskins; and sister-in-law, Debbie Haskins and Kathy McCrea.

Visitation will be held from 4-8 p.m. on Friday, January 20, at Clancy-Gernon Funeral Home in Bourbonnais. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. on Saturday, January 21, at Maternity B.V.M. Catholic Church in Bourbonnais, with cremation rites accorded following Mass.
