Monee Police are continuing their investigation of a domestic disturbance that led to the shooting death of 46-year-old Mark Maher on December 23.
According to a Monee Police Department news release, officers were called to a residence on the 25700 block of S. Taft at approximately 8:30 that night. The incident was reported as “a struggle and shooting in progress.”
When officers arrived, they found a male shooting victim in the front room of the residence and his spouse in another room. After the residence was secured, the victim, later identified as Maher, was immediately checked by Monee Fire personnel. He was pronounced dead at the scene by medical personnel.
MPD detectives, with assistance from State Police Crime Scene Technicians, determined the couple were the only two present at the time of the shooting, and that a struggle had taken place.
The woman “was visibly upset and barely able to communicate with officers” and was transported to Franciscan Health Olympia Fields Hospital for evaluation.
Monee Police Chief Scott Koerner said later the woman is “with family” now and “doing okay.”
He also said there was no history of similar incidents at that address.
“The only other time we were there was for a neighbor’s dog barking,” he said.
The incident continues under investigation by MPD, with assistance from the Will County State’s Attorney’s Office and members of the Will County Major Crimes Task Force.
