JOANN M. BACHELDER 

Joann M. Bachelder (nee Bandiga), 88, of Palos Hills, passed away peacefully on November 16 surrounded by her loving family by her side.  

She was the beloved wife of the late George James Bachelder III; loving mother of Mary Kay (David) Loyd, Carol (Patrick) Carmody, George James Bachelder IV., Joseph James Bachelder, and Thomas William Bachelder C.P.D.; Cherished grandmother of Matthew, Justin, Tyler, Jessie, Meghan, Kathy, Ashley and Jake; proud great grandmother of Cilas; dearest sister of William (the late Betty) Bandiga; kind aunt of many nieces and nephews. 

Joann was a graduate of St. Bernard’s School of Nursing Class of 1955. She was a registered nurse. 

Funeral services have been held. Interment St. Mary Cemetery.

Daniel A. Hart, age 60, of Justice, passed away suddenly and unexpectedly at home November 12.

He was the loving father of Nicole (Sam) LaRocco, Daniel Hart II and Patrick Hart; Daniel will be remembered fondly by his former spouse, Nancie Miller. Proud grandfather of Nova and Zyla; loving life partner of Elan Wilson. Preceded in death by his parents, Virginia Fickett and Lawrence Hart. Dear brother of Debra Fornof, the late Lawrence Hart Jr., Edna Pantoja and Tiffany Ilkanic. Fond uncle and great uncle to many nieces and nephews.

Juana Lopez, age 90, of Chicago, Ashburn community, passed away November 8 surrounded by the love of close family.

Preceded in death by her husband Juan Lopez, daughter Josephine Valentin and son Jose Luis “Googie” Lopez. Her spirit and memory will live on through her surviving children Margaret Hall (Kevin), Teresa Guerrero (Danny), Marcos Lopez and daughter-in-law Patricia Lopez. Juana is also survived by her siblings Diego Garcia (Irma), Ana Luz Soto (Bruno) and Ramona “Monin” Valentin (Edwin). She is a beloved granny to Yvette (Juan), Bernadette (Renee), Vanessa, Vivian, Juliann, Jesse, Matthew, Stephanie, Jennifer, David and Anthony; dear great-granny to Raphael, Vanessa, Giovanni, Jermaine, Mireya, Julian, Ximena, Elijah, Amelie, and Jonny. Juana was also an admired aunt and madrina to many.

Visitation was held November 13 at Foran Funeral Home, 7300 W. Archer Ave. (55th street just west of Harlem). Visitation was held November 14 until time of Prayers. Procession from the funeral home to Queen of the Universe Church for a Mass of Christian burial. Juana was buried next to her beloved husband at St. Mary Cemetery. Pauline Michals (nee Klemchuk), age 105, longtime resident of Berwyn, passed away peacefully November 11.

Beloved wife for 72years to the love of her life, her late husband, George P. Michals; loving mother of Michael (Rosalyne) Michals, George Michals, Marilyn Michals and Paula (Dr. Gary) Ogurkiewicz; cherished grandmother of Kathleen Michals, Deborah (Glen) Olson, Laura (David) Koenig, Christine (James) Michals-Bucher, Carolyn Michals, Paul (Amy) Michals, Natalia (Dr. Alex) Ogurkiewicz – Crider, Gregory and Larissa Ogurkiewicz. Great grandmother of 9. Pauline was an exceptional entrepreneur, of 2 successful taverns in Chicago and helped her husband in their oil drilling business. She was one of the “Rosie the Riveters”, helping build airplanes during WWII. She lived through 2 pandemic and survived Covid at age 104.

He was the beloved husband for 54 years to the late Charlotte J. Paulsen (nee Barrett), who passed away in 2017. Loving father of John (Kelly), Keith (Christine) and Gretchen (late Patrick) Lynch. Cherished grandpa of Jack, Hailey, Riley, Kennedy, Andrew, David, Robert, Lindsey, Olivia, Gabrielle and Isabelle. Dear brother of the late Robert (late Ronnie) Paulsen.

He was an Army veteran. 

Hank was a retired general manager of Chicago Metallic Corporation with over 37 years of service. He was an avid boater and fisherman. He loved to watch all types of sports including those his grandchildren participated in. He was very active in his families’ lives and hobbies.

Visitation will be Thursday, December 1, at Evangelical Lutheran Church of the Good Shepherd, 7800 W. McCarthy Road, Palos Heights, from 9-11 a.m. with a Funeral Service to follow at 11 a.m. Interment Fairmount – Willow Hills Memorial Park, Willow Springs.

RICHARD F. “DICK” POLICH

Born in 1932 to Croatian immigrant parents outside Chicago, Polich received degrees from Yale and MIT and flew fighter jets in the Navy for 3 years. He married longtime partner Cathy Kuttner in 2014. Several previous marriages ended in divorce. In addition to Kuttner, survivors include children, stepchildren, nieces, nephews and grandchildren.

A memorial service will be held in Spring 2023 at UAP Polich Tallix. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Dick Polich Youth Internship Fund at the Community Foundation of Orange and Sullivan (https://cfosny.org/dick-polich-youth-internship-fund/) to provide foundry experience for at-risk youth.

Dearest grandfather of 16, great-grandfather of 17. Fond brother of Juan Rodriguez, Luz Delia Alvarado and the late Anna, late Ida and late David. Uncle of many nieces and nephews.
