Senior Center has re-opened

I hope everyone has been able to enjoy the beautiful autumn weather we’ve been blessed with.
I visited the Southwest Regional Senior Center, 6117 S. Kedzie, recently. They are open once again, and everything looks very nice. New floors were installed and there are freshly painted walls. The dining area has been spruced up and is open for lunch. They are now serving box lunches on weekdays. The cost is $2.
My hubby was disappointed to find out that the exercise room is still closed. He used to run on the treadmills and use the stationary bikes. Hopefully, this exercise option will be available soon.

The Senior Center does have an exercise class every morning at 9 and a Tai Chi class on Thursdays at 2:30 p.m. In addition, there are activities like karaoke, line dancing and movies. Call for more information at (312) 747-0440.
Did you know that the Midway Baseball/Softball Association continues playing ball during the autumn months? Even if you don’t have a child in their baseball leagues you can enjoy watching games at their baseball field, 4701 W. Marquette Road, every weekend.
Midway Baseball is currently collecting toys for their annual toy drive. Last year they gave toys to more than 500 neighborhood kids at their Christmas party. Donations of new toys can be dropped off at their concession stand from now until Nov. 5. You can also arrange for a home pick up. Call Elsa at (773) 575-9361 for more information.
Envision Community Services (4324 W. 63rd St., 773-899-2897) shared some information. The Chicago Youth Service Corporation provides year-round, paid service opportunities for youth ages 16 through 24. These jobs also provide learning and leadership training. The Calvary Lutheran Church Senior Club would like to extend Happy October Birthday wishes to Lorrie, JoAlice, Juanita, Ruth. Loretta and Xueyan. May the dear Lord bless each of you today and always.
Thank you to neighborhood activists Ken and Jennifer Mech, who continue to collect money for our police. Their recent fundraiser on Sept. 11 brought in more than $3,000 to go toward the cost of bullet proof vests. They are still accepting donations for our guys and gals in blue. If you would like to donate, just call me and leave a message or text. I will put you in touch with Ken.
Congratulations to my great nephew, Joe, and his bride, Jamie, on their wedding day, Oct. 8! May you have a long and happy life together!
