Alley paving, police vehicle approved by Lyons
By Steve Metsch
The Lyons Village Board has unanimously approved paying Triggi Construction no more than $206,455 for an alley paving project on the east side of town.
Mayor Christopher Getty said it’s for an alley the village had hoped to pave last year.
“One of the alleys we were working to pave in 2021, we couldn’t fit it in, was the alley that lies between Powell Avenue and Harlem Avenue and 38th Place and 39th Street,” Getty said.
The cost estimate was less than anticipated, Getty said.
Triggi Construction is based in West Chicago. Work is expected to commence later this spring.
In other business at the April 19 board meeting, the board unanimously approved the purchase of a 2020 Chevy Traverse from Jack Phelan Chevrolet, 4000 S. Harlem Ave., Lyons, in an amount to not exceed $35,500.
The vehicle will replace an unmarked police vehicle that was totaled in a recent accident, Getty said. Drug forfeiture funds are being used to by the vehicle, he said.
The board accepted a $300,000 grant from the Illinois Housing Development Authority’s Strong Communities Program.
The village plans to use the grant on a project to help acquire houses in a flood-prone area of the village north of Ogden Avenue and west of First Avenue.
During trustee reports, Trustee Dan Hilker, who is also director of the public library, said staff has been working on the inventory, “weeding out old material and updating new.”
Plans are being worked on for the summer reading program, Hilker said.
Trustee Paul Marchiori, who oversees the police department, said there were 545 traffic stops in March with 365 citations issued.
There were 386 parking citations and that included 87 for not having a village sticker, he said.
Trustee James Veselsky, who oversees public works, said staff has been busy with tree trimming “as needed.”
Trustee Ivica Lazich, who oversees the building department, said there was one commercial inspection and three residential inspections conducted in March.
“Ten (building) permits were issued, 27 were applied for,” Lazich said.
In a sad note, members of the village government gathered at Hitzeman Funeral Home in Brookfield on April 20 to pay their respects at a wake for former village clerk Dawn Campos.
Campos, 66, died on April 13.
