At this time of year the weather is always up and down. It can be 60 degrees one day and snow the next. It’s always been that way. Winter doesn’t want to let go just yet, and spring is knocking at the door.
Whether or not you like the weather, you might want to join the West Lawn Neighbors Club and go for a walk with them. Every Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday at 6:30 p.m. they meet at West Lawn Park, 4233 W. 65th St., and walk around the neighborhood. What a good way to work off those winter calories and walk in the safety of a group. No need to register. Just show up. All are welcome.

As you know, the West Lawn Branch Library, 4020 W. 63rd St., is open again. There are so many activities going on. Mondays are movie nights. The Godfather is scheduled for 4:30 p.m. March 14. Every Wednesday is Family Craft Night, starting at 6 p.m. Thursdays at 10:30 a.m. is bilingual storytime for preschoolers and their parents or guardians. The Quinn/Guerrero Service office at 6500 S. Pulaski is having a recycling day on March 26 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. So bring all your unwanted electronics to their rear parking lot. If you have any questions call (773) 581-8000.
Midway Airport is having a job fair on Wednesday, March 16 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on the second floor mezzanine. There are many jobs in concessions available. Bring your state ID or driver’s license, birth certificate and Social Security card.

The Chicago Department of Water Management will begin installing an underground sewer structure on Pulaski between 63rd and 65th streets. Pulaski will be reduced to one lane of traffic in each direction. Access to 64th Street west of Pulaski will be closed. Work is scheduled to begin on March 14 and will last approximately six weeks.
Speaking of Pulaski, I hope everyone had a pleasant Pulaski Day on Monday, March 7. Casimir Pulaski, a Polish hero of the Revolutionary War, served in Washington’s army and helped form the American cavalry.
Back in the 1980s, Mayor Harold Washington introduced a resolution to designate the first Monday in March as Casimir Pulaski Day. I hope all the Chicago schools took time to teach their students about the significant contribution Casimir Pulaski made to American independence. I once had a conversation with a Chicago Public Schools student who thought Chicago was celebrating Pulaski Road on Pulaski Day.
The Calvary Lutheran Church Senior Club reminds us that their St. Patrick’s luncheon will take place at noon Tuesday, March 15 at the church, 6149 S. Kenneth.
