Shot in the head and killed on Hermitage

A 28-year-old man was shot in the head and killed as he sat in a vehicle in the 5300 block of South Hermitage at 6:05 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 20. Police said the victim was approached by three unknown men who surrounded the vehicle and demanded his personal property. The victim was pronounced dead at the scene. Police did not initially release the victim’s name, pending notification of next of kin. No one is in custody.

Man shot in 51^st Street drive-by

A 19-year-old man was shot as he walked outside in the 1600 block of West 51^st Street at 12:24 a.m. Monday, Feb. 21. The victim was taken to MacNeal Hospital, where he was listed in good condition. Police did not say where on his body he was shot. The shooter reportedly fired from a red station wagon, No one is in custody.

Boy shot near 41^st and Pulaski

A 16-year-old boy was shot in the left armpit as he rode in a westbound vehicle in the 3900 block of West 41^st Street at about 5 p.m. Friday, Feb. 18. Police said the shooter fired from a vehicle that pulled alongside he victim’s vehicle. The teen was transported to Mount Sinai Hospital, where he was listed in good condition. No one is in custody.

Boy, 8, shot in the buttocks

An 8-year-old boy was shot in the buttocks as he rode in a vehicle with a 19-year-old man in a westbound vehicle in the 2600 block of West 39^th Place at 7:47 a.m. Friday, Feb. 18. Police said the shooter fired from a dark-colored SUV that pulled alongside. The boy was taken to Stroger Hospital, where he was listed in stable condition. The 19-year-old was not injured. No one is in custody.

Shot as he tries to flee

A 24-year-old man was shot in both legs as he drove his vehicle in the 2800 block of West 44^th Street at 10:51 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 15. The victim told police as he walked to his vehicle, he saw two men approach on foot. He hurriedly got in his vehicle and tried to drive away, but the men opened fire. The victim also sustained a graze wound to his stomach. He was taken to Mount Sinai Hospital, where he was listed in critical condition. No one is in custody.

Shot in the finger on Valentine’s Day

A 23-year-old woman was shot in her index finger as she sat in a vehicle parked in the 5300 block of South Hoyne at 10:03 p.m. Monday, Feb. 14. Police said the victim was the target of two shooters who fled on foot. The woman refused medical care from CFD. She took herself to a family member’s home and later took herself to Holy Cross Hospital, where she was listed in good condition. No one is in custody.

Hit Indiana man with gun rap

Thompson

            An 18-year-old man from Hammond, Ind. was charged with aggravated unlawful use of a weapon after he was arrested during a traffic stop in the 5400 block of South Maplewood at 6:42 p.m. Monday, Jan. 24.

Jaylin R. Thompson, of the 900 block of 150^th Street, reportedly was carrying a gun while he was a passenger in a vehicle, a CPD spokesman said without elaborating.

Say man stole from Home Depot

A 31-year-old Grand Boulevard man was charged with retail theft after he was arrested at the Home Depot at 4555 S. Western at 1:22 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 18.

Donelson

Anthaniel Lamont Donelson, of the 700 block of East 50^th Place, allegedly stole merchandise from the store. He was detained by store security staff while police made their way to the store. A CPD spokesman declined to say what allegedly was stolen. Two counts of battery were added after Donelson reportedly struggled with security staff. He also was charged with unlawful use of a weapon after he reportedly was found to be in possession of a pistol.

According to public records, Donelson has been arrested tree times by CPD since 2016, including once on a charge of burglary.

Claim man punched woman, pulled her hair

Castillo

            A 25-year-old Irving Park man was charged with domestic battery after he was arrested at a home in the 4700 block of South Hoyne at 10:29 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 15.

Jonas Daniel Castillo, of the 3000 block of West Addison, allegedly pulled the hair of a 23-year-old woman while she was taking a shower and then allegedly punched her in the face and body shortly after that, in a bedroom, a CPD spokesman said.

Man accused of stealing package

Booczko

            A 30-year-old man from suburban Chicago Heights was charged with theft after he was arrested at 5920 W. 55^th Street at 3:39 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 26.

William J. Booczko, of the 200 block of Pleasant Drive, allegedly stole a package from a lobby of a multi-unit residential building.

A CPD spokesman did not say what was in the package that was allegedly stolen.

Say man drove drunk

Alvarez

A 43-year-old Brighton Park man was charged with aggravated DUI after he was arrested during a traffic stop in the 6100 block of South Archer at 9:15 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 29.

Sergio Alvarez, of the 3800 block of South Campbell, also was charged with illegally transporting open alcohol in a vehicle.

His vehicle was curbed after officers on patrol spotted him disobey a traffic signal, a CPD spokesman said.

Chavez

According to public records, Alvarez has been arrested five times by CPD since 2016 on charges that included aggravated DUI and domestic battery.

Also arrested was 42-year-old Alma Chavez, also of Brighton Park.

A CPD spokesman said Chavez was a passenger in the vehicle; and after Alvarez was cuffed and seated in a police SUV, she allegedly tried to open the door and get him out. She was charged with obstructing an arrest.

Say man was carrying brass knuckles

Hernandez

A 19-year-old Garfield Ridge man was charged with unlawful use of a weapon after he was arrested during a traffic stop at 5400 S. Austin at 9:20 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 2.

Alexander Hernandez, of the 5900 block of West 55^th Street, allegedly was found to carrying a set of brass knuckles, a CPD spokesman said.

Traffic stop leads to weapons charge

Garibay

            A 33-year-old Scottsdale man was charged with aggravated unlawful use of a weapon after he was arrested during a traffic stop in the 6200 block of South Kolin at 8:08 p.m. Friday, Jan. 28.

Eduardo Daniel Anguiano Garibay, of the 7900 block of South Kolmar, reportedly was found carrying a loaded handgun.

Police also claimed he was carrying a fraudulent CCW card.

 Arrest Alabama man at MDW

James

            A 39-year-old man from Cottondale, Ala. Was charged with violating an order of protection after he was arrested on the east side of Midway International Airport, 5701 S. Cicero, at noon Monday, Feb. 7.

Ulrick Lee James allegedly violated a court order when he made contact with a woman, a CPD spokesman said without elaborating.

Charge man with leaving crash scene

A 25-year-old West Elsdon man was charged with failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident after he was arrested at his home in the 5600 block of South Kolin at 6:55 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 9.

Rivas

Aaron Rivas also was charged with reckless driving, leaving the scene of an accident, driving the wrong way on a one-way street and driving on a suspended license. A CPD spokesman said Rivas admitted to the crimes, but the spokesman did not say where the crash occurred.

According to public records, Rivas was arrested by CPD in May 2019 during a traffic stop near 47^th and Kostner and charged with possession of a controlled substance.
