Oak Lawn man charged with shooting brother 6 times

An Oak Lawn man was charged last week with attempted murder after he allegedly shot his brother six times in a violent altercation.
Police said they received a call of shots fired shortly after midnight on February 8 in the 9600 block of South Karlov Avenue. As officers were responding to the scene, information was coming in to the emergency communications center indicating that at least one person had been shot.
The first arriving officers made contact with a person now identified as Terrence Johnson. Police said Johnson stated that it was his home and that he had just shot his brother.
Officers located the gunshot victim hiding in a closet in the garage. He was identified as Johnson’s brother. He had suffered multiple gunshot wounds and was badly bleeding.
Officers immediately administered first aid to control the bleeding.
The victim was transported to a local hospital by Oak Lawn Fire Department ambulance with life threatening injuries. The victim remains in critical condition.
Oak Lawn police detectives conducted an investigation into what led up to the violent altercation. Evidence technicians from the Cook County Sheriff’s Police assisted with processing the crime scene and a vehicle. A handgun believed to be the gun used in the shooting was recovered along with other evidence related to the crime.
At the conclusion of the investigation, Oak Lawn detectives worked with the Cook County State’s Attorney’s office to review the case.
Johnson was charged with one count of attempted first-degree murder.
Johnson was transported to the Bridgeview Courthouse on February 10 for a bond hearing. His bail was set at $1 million by Judge Havis.
His next court case is set for March 9.
