Violet dedicated her life to being an exceptionally wonderful wife and mother – the foundation of our family. She filled her home with warmth and kindness and demonstrated her love in so many ways.

Marie Annette Kjer, age 59, passed away January 5.

Loving daughter of Lorraine J. Coppens and the late Charles F. Kubal Jr.; cherished mother to Tammy (Richard) Starzyk, Stephanie (Robert) Johnson, and Robert (Sara) Kjer, beloved grandmother to Elizabeth, Ryder, and one on the way; dear sister to, John (Deborah) Kubal and Barbara (the late David) Arlington.

Gordana Levenda, 74, of Palos Hills, passed away on January 11.

Gordana was born in Austria.

She was the beloved mother, grandmother, aunt, and friend to all. She was preceded in death by her parents, Gregorie and Helena nee Graf Glodjovich. Cherished mother of Caroline, Nicholas (Kristy), Elizabeth, and Anthony (Kelly) Levenda; loving grandmother of Luke and Samantha.

She was a loving and strong person who dedicated her life to helping others through her career working in hospital laboratories. She was a lover of animals and dedicated to stray animal rescue. She passed on her love of animals, nature, cooking and gardens to all of her children. Her main passion was to be a supportive mother and grandmother. She will be greatly missed by all.

Larry Eldon Mitchell, age 84, longtime resident of Bridgeview, passed away December 28, 2021.

He leaves behind his beloved wife Carole (nee Cerven), son Jeff and daughter Patricia, 4 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren, from a former marriage, also 3 stepsons – Michael (Andrea), the late Anthony, the late Edward Rodriguez, Grampa Larry­”Pops” to Michael Jr., Blanca (Wally) Lockard and Cheyenne Rodriguez, Great Grampa Larry to Wally III, Aniayah and Eleazar. Larry was a member and tireless worker in the Bridgeview Golden Agers Senior Club and The Senior Commission.

Cremation rites were private, and a memorial will be held at a later date with friends and family to be notified.

She was the beloved wife of the late Harold; cherished daughter of the late John (late Mary); loving mother of Susan (William) Waterstraat, Hal (Kathleen), and Mark (Ellen) Meyer; dearest Nana to Jonathan, Bradley, Andrew, Melissa (Elliot), Madeline, Matthew (Kristina), Katherine, Meredith, and Luke. Devoted sister of the late Rudolph (late Norma and late Elmyra) Palenik, the late Helen (late Stephen) Pijacek, the late Edward (late Antionette) Palenik, and Ruth (Joseph) Enderle; fond sister-in-law of Beverly (late James) Walsh; special Aunt (Mimi) of nieces and nephews; friend of many, but especially Helen Hruska.

He was the beloved son of Jose Carmen Ortiz and the late Maria Guadalupe Perez; treasured partner and friend of Deborah Scheck; dear brother of Antonio (Rosie Green) Ortiz, Raul (Scott Mossman) Ortiz, Alberto (Juan Carlos Gonzalez) Ortiz, Martha Elena (Roberto) Lara, Margarita (Reynel Villalobos) Ortiz, Ofelia Ortiz, Rosa Maria Ortiz and Natalia Ortiz. Fond uncle of many nieces and nephews. For 29 years Sgt. Ortiz served the city of Chicago with honor and respect.

Visitation was held January 12 at Foran Funeral Home, 7300 West Archer Ave. (55th St. just west of Harlem). A service in celebration of Juan’s life was held at the funeral home.
