A woman who has given up a lot of her time shaping Palos Park has been appointed as the village’s new clerk.

Kathy Williams received the village council’s blessing at the March 9 meeting to take over the role, which was vacated by Marie Arrigoni, who left after 15 years for personal reasons.

Mayor Nicole Milovich-Walters thinks Williams will be a perfect fit on the council.

“Kathy is a lifelong Palos Park resident who has quietly been giving back to the community in meaningful ways for decades,” Milovich-Walters said.

The mayor said Williams spent more than 30 years as the administrator for Southwest Suburban Montessori School and played a role in the education of generations of area students.

She was also a founding member of Palos Fine Arts in 1984. From 1991 through 2023 the group awarded scholarships to students and adults to help make arts education more accessible.

“She also served as a member of the Palos Historical Society reflecting her longstanding commitment to preserving the village’s history,” Milovich-Walters said.

The mayor said Williams’ family has had a big role in serving the community. Her father, Bob DeNovo, helped start the Palos Fire Department in the early 1950s.

McCord fence issue dropped

Residents of McCord Place 38 McCord Trace will not be asking the village to be allowed to build a six-foot fence to shield traffic noise from LaGrange Road.

“It has withdrawn its application regarding its fence variance,” Commissioner Mike Wade said.

“The village council does not need to take any further action. We can take that off our plate.

They are going to explore other avenues,” he said.

The residents of that area were turned down twice by the village’s Zoning Board of Appeals and the village council was waiting for more information from the McCord residents before it was going to vote on the issue.

The council had planned on addressing it again at the March 23 meeting.
